The Ta Hiera Hellenic Polytheist Forum is a polytheistic reconstructionist religious web site and message board devoted to facilitating the understanding of ancient Hellenic religion (and related ancient religions) and the worship of the ancient Hellenic deities in the present day in a manner that, while clearly based on academic research into ancient practices, is adapted for modern times and places.
The Ta Hiera Hellenic Polytheist Forum is not affiliated with any Hellenic religious organization. This forum welcomes anyone interested in discussing Hellenic Polytheism regardless of group affiliation (or lack thereof), provided they adhere to our forum rules and guidelines.

Forum Moving to a New Message Board

As the Hosts and Staff don't have time to do justice to two separate forums, we have decided to close this board and move discussions over to the Ta Hiera Hellenic Polytheism SIG on The Cauldron: A Pagan Forum's message board -- you will find there there are already discussions on Hellenic Polytheism going on there: feel free to join in or restart discussions from this board. We have mentioned that we might have to do this before, but have been putting it off -- hoping for some change in reality that would make doing so unnecessary. Unfortunately, reality did not change and simply had to be faced.
The Cauldron's message board is an SMF board -- a much more standard type of board which should make it easier for more people to join us. While the Ta Hiera SIG is starting out with one board, there is plenty of room for expansion if we need it.
We hope that you will join us there for more discussions -- hopefully, more active discussions than we have had here. You'll need to register a n account there if you do not have one and read the board rules to post. Lurkers do not even need to register as the SIG board is readable by guests.

Building a Temple?

What are your views about building a temple dedicated to the gods (or converting an old church to a hellenic pagan temple?) I have always wanted to do this, even before studying Hellenismos; what do you think?

Something that puzzles me, how/when did the notion of the 12 Olympians Gods come about?
As we all know the Greeks worshipped many more Gods than just 12. Were the 12 even the same 12 from region to region?
Lustral Water

I was wondering...how would someone go to bless some lustral water?
I have been adding some sea salt into a glass bowl filled with water, and asking the gods to purify it. (In a prayer that i made up myself.) Is this method all right since at the time being, I cannot be as "flamboyent" in my worship.
Cult Images

This is a subject I have seen conflicting views on, did the Ancient Greeks and conversely should we view cult images/statues as being somehow part of the God represented.
Could the God see through or even act though the image, or should they be seen as gifts that become the property of God.
